Kendall Jenner is getting candid about the reality of working in the modeling industry.
For context, Kendall was just 13 when she received her first professional contract with Wilhelmina Models.
She was signed after her mom/manager, Kris Jenner, spent days phoning around to ensure that she could “set Kendall up with the best modeling agency possible.”
This was documented in an episode of Keeping Up with the Kardashians.
Appearing on Emma Chamberlain’s Anything Goes podcast this week, Kendall, now 28, opened up about the downsides of being a world-famous supermodel.
Acknowledging her privilege, Kendall said, “I’m not gonna sit here and say that I’ve had the toughest journey. I think I’ve been extremely fortunate."
“But I also have had my own set of challenges, whether it’s [being] overworked or not getting a job that I would've really loved to get,” she said.
Kendall went on to discuss how “lonely” she can find traveling to “random cities” for her work.
“It is very lonely,” she said. “I’ve had really dark nights where I’ve been in random cities and just hysterically crying myself to sleep because I haven’t been home in three months, and I’ve been pretty much alone the entire time.”
"There's been a lot of definite moments where I'm like, 'What is going on? Is this all worth it?'" she admitted.
This comes years after Kendall responded to people who criticized her for complaining about aspects of her work because of her privileged lifestyle.
“There is going to be those people that say, ‘Oh, OK, what does she have to worry about? What does she have to be anxious about?’” she told Vogue in 2021. “I’ll never sit here and say that I'm not fortunate. I know I live a very privileged, amazing lifestyle — I'm a very blessed girl.”
“I still have one of these, you know what I mean?” she said as she pointed to her head. "And that thing up there sometimes doesn't always... I don't know, it's not always happy, and it's not always connecting, and I'm still a human being at the end of the day.”
