It’s safe to assume that Jennifer Garner’s first-ever Comic-Con didn’t exactly go to plan on Thursday, with the star getting stuck in an elevator for over an hour.
The actor documented her ordeal at the San Diego event in a series of videos that she uploaded to Instagram on Sunday, alongside the caption: “Baby’s first Comic Con: a short story.”
But by 11 minutes, Jennifer was visibly struggling with the heat and admitted that “it’s toasty.” Acknowledging her shiny face, she said that she “needs to blot.”
After 35 minutes, Jennifer resorted to TV sitcom advice as she told the camera: “I think I heard on an episode of The Office or Brooklyn Nine-Nine or something that you’re supposed to sit, so we’re sitting.”
Following an apparent slump in energy, Jen took matters into her own hands at 41.5 minutes and tried to raise morale in the elevator with a rendition of “99 Bottles of Beer,” although she started the song at 999 bottles in an apparent nod to how long they’d been trapped for.
Then, after an hour, there was a glimmer of hope as the elevator’s buttons lit back up again...
...And 12 minutes after that, the group rejoiced as a firefighter finally opened the doors to free them, with everybody in the elevator unable to hide their excitement at feeling fresh air.
Needless to say, Jennifer’s Instagram followers were impressed by the way that she kept her cool throughout the saga — including her showbiz friends.
Gwyneth Paltrow commented on the post: “Okay, no way oh my god how are you so calm.”
And Tracee Ellis Ross echoed: “@jennifer.garner oh my! Well done on staying calm.”
But all’s well that ends well, and, despite the blip, Jennifer ended up having a great time at her first Comic-Con.
And while she may have already overcome the elevator drama, we probably shouldn’t be surprised if Jen opts to take the stairs in the future!
