“Euphoria” Star Hunter Schafer Discussed Her NSFW Sex Scenes On The Show And Admitted She Feels “Bad” As The Daughter Of Church Pastors

“When I had to tell my parents, ‘In the first episode, I'm having anal sex with a 45-year-old and cutting myself in the arm,’ my first thought is, OK, they have to tell their congregation...who are just little old nice white Christian people from the south.”

Euphoria actor Hunter Schafer has recalled the moment she told her Christian parents about her NSFW sex scenes on the show.

Directed by Sam Levinson, the HBO series — which first aired in 2019 — features explicit nudity and sex scenes.

In the very first installment, Hunter’s character, Jules, has anal sex with Cal Jacobs (Eric Dane), who is Nate’s (Jacob Elordi) dad. Later in the episode, Jules self-harms in front of Nate at a party.

Now, Hunter has admitted that she feels “bad” that her parents — who are Church pastors — have to “deal with” her being involved in these NSFW scenes.

Appearing on the Call Her Daddy podcast this week, Hunter shared, “There's this whole pastor's daughter trope. And it gets kind of tough.”

“When I had to tell my parents, ‘In the first episode, I'm having anal sex with a 45-year-old and cutting myself in the arm,’ my first thought is, OK, they have to tell their congregation that their kid's going to be on TV, and then their congregation, who are just little old nice white Christian people from the south, are going to watch this TV show and see me getting fucked,” she said.

“I still do feel bad because that's something they still have to deal with,” she added after stating that her parents are "on the chiller side of Christianity."

Hunter isn’t the only Euphoria cast member who has talked about the awkwardness of discussing NSFW scenes with their parents.

Last year, Sydney Sweeney — who plays Cassie Howard on the show — spoke candidly about her family’s reaction to her NSFW scenes.

“Yeah, I didn’t prepare my dad — at all,” Sydney said on Sunday Today when discussing the explicit nature of the show.

“I mean, how do you bring up a conversation? Also, when I talk to my dad, it’s usually not about work. We talk father-daughter conversations,” she said.

Sydney continued, “So yeah, he decided he was gonna watch it without telling me — with his parents. My dad and my grandpa turned it off and walked off. My grandma — she's a big supporter of mine.”
