It’s no secret that Eva Mendes and Ryan Gosling keep their kids — and their relationship — super private.
Ryan and Eva, who fell in love while shooting their 2012 film The Place Beyond the Pines, share two young girls: Esmeralda, 9, and Amada, 8.
Last year, Eva revealed that Esmeralda and Amada do not have access to the internet.
After sharing an Instagram video of herself shaking her head alongside the caption, "When my kids ask me if they're old enough to go on the internet, social media or anything requiring wifi,” Eva replied to a ton of comments about her parenting style.
When one user asked when she’ll let her kids access social media sites, Eva replied, “Honestly, I don't know. I'll have to see where it goes. For now, I'm observing them and keeping up with research about how social media can impact a child's brain. I'm taking it stage by stage.”
In a separate comment, Eva acknowledged the dangers of letting her kids have access to the internet: “In my house, children do not have access to the Internet. It's too dangerous. Just like drinking or voting or getting a driver's license (etc.) isn't allowed for children, the Internet falls under that category for me, especially social media,” she wrote.
Additionally, Eva and Ryan do not share photos of their kids on their social media pages.
Now, Eva has shared how grateful she is that her kids were able to remain private at the 2024 Olympics in Paris, which they attended along with her and Ryan last week.
Taking to Instagram this Wednesday, Eva shared a selfie with the caption, “The minute I see photographers when I’m out, my guard and my wall goes up.”
She later replied to a fan in the comments praising the Olympics for keeping her kids private in their coverage. “I love @nbcolympics didn't cut away to the kids !” she wrote. “And most sites blurred their faces so mama bear is happy about that. Anyway it felt so good to be there and feel unified with people.”
Eva reiterated in a separate comment how “grateful” she was that the paparazzi hadn’t published photographs of her kids’ faces. “they were great about not posing the kids so I’m a grateful mama bear,” she wrote.
And Eva also hit back at some people who suggested that she was “complaining” about her fame simply because she shared her discomfort at being photographed by paparazzi.
“im not saying I don’t expect it -I’m saying I put a guard up. Which I’m happy to do. I like that I don’t parade out there. But I feel like I can let my guard down on my page,” she told one user, while replying to someone else, “I’m def not complaining - but once I feel cameras it’s like I turn off and go cold. Unless I’m at work of course.”
