Sheldon Brown was a legendary bike mechanic born in 1944. He worked for Harris Cyclery in West Newton, Massachusetts, until his death in 2008. His website Sheldon Brown’s Bicycle Technical Info continues to be an encyclopedic resource for bike mechanics. Brown wrote the Mechanical Advantage column for Adventure Cyclist magazine from 1997 until 2008.
